Exploratorium's Tactile Dome Keeps Visitors In the Dark
A Cool Place to Visit in the Season of Halloween

An old saying, perhaps meant to provide comfort, goes, "There's nothing there in
the dark that isn't there in the light." At the Exploratorium's legendary Tactile
Dome, however, there's never any light, and visitors are never quite sure what's
there as they feel their way through twisting passageways, chutes and rooms,
guided only by their sense of touch. $17 covers admission to the Tactile Dome
and the Exploratorium. Reservations are available by calling (415) 561-0362,
Monday through Friday, between 10am and 5pm.

Do All Cultures Share a Common Thread?
A Wonderfest Preview Lecture
A Conversation with Dr. Michael Ghiselin and Dr. Peter Richerson

What determines how we behave and think? Are there cultural universals? As an
introduction to Wonderfest 2007, an annual discussion series explores
provocative questions in science. In this dialogue, U.C. Davis' Dr. Peter
Richerson and Dr. Michael Ghiselin of the California Academy of Sciences will
relate the fundamentals of cultural anthropology, debate the challenges and
controversies surrounding this topic, and field questions from the audience.

Climate Change: What's Really Happening, and What Can I Do About It?
Live Talk at the Exploratorium
Saturday, October 20, 2007, at 1pm

Human activity is the major contributing factor to global warming -- that's the
conclusion drawn from decades of research by the majority of climate scientists
worldwide. How does our dependence on fossil fuels affect the problem? What
can we do to reverse the tide? On October 20th, join the Exploratorium's Dr.
Joylette Portlock for this lively talk on climate science. She'll go over findings
demonstrating the extent and consequences of global climate change and discuss
ideas about what we can do today to make tomorrow better.
